Water & Wastewater Inspections, on the Map

Your field crews maintain buried infrastructure across the entire service territory. Hydrants, valves, manholes, lift stations — thousands of assets that need regular inspection. Mapalyze replaces clipboard-and-spreadsheet workflows with GPS-enabled mobile forms that work offline, capture photos, and export directly to your GIS.

Water utilities lose an average of 20% of treated water to leaks in aging distribution systems that lack current field records

2,400 Hydrants Before the Fiscal Year Ends

A water utility needs to inspect and flow-test 2,400 fire hydrants across its service territory before the fiscal year closes out. Each hydrant requires a visual condition assessment, static and residual pressure readings, flow-rate measurements, GPS coordinates, and at least two photos documenting the hydrant and surrounding area. Results must be submitted to the fire department and loaded into the utility's GIS for mapping. It is a massive lift, and the crew of three has been at it since March.

The current process involves a paper flow-test form, a handheld GPS unit, a phone camera, and a spreadsheet back at the office. Inspectors spend the morning in the field and the afternoon typing results into the system. Photos sit in camera rolls with no link to the form data. GPS coordinates are hand-copied from the handheld unit, introducing transposition errors. By the time results reach the GIS team, at least 15% of records need to be sent back for correction or re-inspection.

Mapalyze was designed to collapse that entire workflow into a single step.

How Mapalyze Solves It

Forms That Work in a Vault

Build custom flow-test forms, valve exercising logs, water quality sampling templates, and lift station audit checklists. Use drop-downs for standardized condition codes, numeric fields with validation for pressure readings, and conditional logic that triggers follow-up questions when a reading falls outside acceptable range. The offline-first architecture keeps data capture running in basements, tunnels, and underground vaults where cell coverage is nonexistent.

Photos Linked to the Right Hydrant

Every photo captured through Mapalyze is automatically linked to the inspection record, GPS coordinates, and timestamp. Photograph a corroded hydrant barrel, a leaking valve packing, or sediment buildup in a stormwater outfall — each image stays tied to the correct asset record permanently. Batch upload dozens of photos in the background while inspectors drive to the next site.

A Compliance Record That Holds Up

Water and wastewater systems are subject to EPA, state, and local regulatory requirements. Mapalyze preserves a full audit trail for every inspection: who collected it, when, at what GPS location, and under which form version. When protocols change, push an updated template centrally — historical submissions remain tied to the version under which they were collected, so your compliance records stay clean.

Straight Into Your GIS

Export inspection records as GeoJSON or Shapefile — formats your GIS team already uses. Every record includes the GPS point, all form fields, and photo attachment references. Load exports directly into QGIS, ArcGIS, or your utility asset management system to update hydrant maps, valve maps, and infrastructure condition layers. No middleware, no conversion scripts. Built for Water & Wastewater Teams

True Offline Mode

Not a fallback. Offline is how it runs — essential for underground vaults, pump stations, and remote well sites. Data syncs when connectivity returns.

Range Validation

Set acceptable ranges for pressure, flow, and turbidity readings. Out-of-range values trigger follow-up questions automatically, cutting down on incomplete records.

GeoJSON & Shapefile

Open GIS formats compatible with QGIS, ArcGIS, and utility asset management platforms. Included on every plan — no enterprise tier required.

Form Versioning

Update inspection templates without breaking historical data. Each submission is permanently tied to the form version it was collected under.
